DES MOINES, Iowa - The Bluejays
women's basketball team downed Drake, 98-71 on Saturday, Feb. 2, equaling the most points scored under head coach Jim Flanery.
The win moved Creighton to 16-4 on the season and 8-1 in the Missouri Valley
Conference. Drake, meanwhile, fell to 6-13 overall and 2-7 in the MVC.
The Bulldogs set the pace in the opening moments of the contest as Drake
jumped out to a 7-1 lead by the 18:14 mark.

Kamphaus and a three-pointer by junior McKenzie Fujan to close within a point
Down 13-8 moments later, the Bluejays finally gained control of the game
with a 14-2 run over the next four minutes. Junior Sarah Nelson got the
Jays going with a turnaround jumper from the right block. Following a
missed layup by the Bulldogs, senior Ally Jensen drained a trifecta from the
left wing to tie the game at 13-13 before the opening media timeout.
Layups by junior Jordan Garrison, sophomore Alexis Akin-Otiko and Nelson
sandwiched a Drake bucket to give the Jays a 19-15 edge with 13:56
showing. The ensuing Creighton possession saw freshman Marissa Janning
convert a traditional three-point play, pushing the Bluejay lead to 22-15.
Over the final 13 minutes of the opening period the Jays sank five more

The Jays opened the second period with a 7-0 run to extend their lead to

15 of the next 20 to get back within single digits at 68-59. Unphased,
the Jays pounded the ball inside to Nelson for a short jumper. Up 70-59,
Janning put the game out of reach with three treys in 62 seconds (12:18 to
11:16) to vault Creighton to its largest margin at 79-59.
The Jays went to claim the game 98-71, holding the ball for a 24 second
clock violation in the closing minute. Returning the show of sportsmanship,
Drake held the ball for the final ten seconds.
Janning led all scorers with 22 points, while Nelson finished with 20.
Fujan and Akin-Otiko also reached double-figures for Creighton with 19 and 13
