ST. LOUIS –Carli Tritz concluded her first regular-season with the Creighton women's basketball team by earning her ninth Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honor, it was announced by the league office Monday. The nine honors smashes the former league record of six set by Bluejay teammate Kelsey Woodard during her freshman campaign in 2007-08.
Tritz led Creighton with 15 points, five assists and five steals in the Bluejays' regular-season finale at Drake on Saturday. The rookie played 39 minutes and hit 6-of-13 shots from the field in the game. She earned nine of the 17 honors awarded this season, as the rest of the league combined for eight Newcomer of the Week victories.
On the season, the Sioux City (Iowa) Heelan product leads the team with 95 assists and 67 steals. She ranks second on the team with 11 points per game and 47.2 field-goal percentage on the season.
Creighton (18-11, 12-6 MVC) finished the regular-season tied for second in the MVC and earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming State Farm MVC Tournament. The Bluejays will face No. 5 seed Wichita State (16-13, 10-8 MVC) in quarterfinal action on Friday at 2:35 pm in St. Charles, Mo.
