OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton men's basketball head coach Greg McDermott has announced that forward Cole Huff will transfer from the University of Nevada and enroll at Creighton this summer. Huff tweeted his announcement on Sunday and it became official on Monday after he returned a signed financial aid agreement to Creighton.
Huff will sit out the 2014-15 season due to transfer requirements before having two years of eligibility in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
"We are excited to welcome Cole Huff to the Creighton Basketball Family," said McDermott. "Cole is a high character young man who possesses the core values that are important to our basketball program. He has proven over the course of the last two seasons at the University of Nevada that he has the ability to score the basketball in a variety of ways. I believe he has only begun to realize his full potential. We can’t wait to get him on campus!"
A 6-foot-8 forward from Altadena, Calif., Huff spent the previous two years at the University of Nevada, earning Honorable Mention All-Mountain West Conference accolades as a sophomore. He started all 32 games and averaged 12.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore for the Wolf Pack, including a high game of 31 points in a double-overtime win at Fresno State. The Wolf Pack finished tied for third in the MWC with a 10-8 league mark, and were 15-17 overall.
As a freshman, Huff averaged 4.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in 30 contests, including 14 starts, for a team that finished 12-19.
Huff was a four-year letterman at Campbell Hall High School in North Hollywood, Calif., where he played for Steve Wachs and averaged 20.8 points and 14.6 rebounds as a senior.
Creighton went 27-8 in 2013-14 while finishing second in the BIG EAST. The Bluejays advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. The Bluejays are coached by Greg McDermott, who is 107-38 after four seasons at Creighton.
