The win lifted Creighton to 10-2 on the season, while Chicago State fell to 5-8 overall.
For the fourth straight game, Creighton never trailed. The Bluejays led 12-5 after just five possessions after a pair of three-pointers, a dunk, a lay-up and two free throws in less than three minutes. McDermott would score 16 points, including four three-pointers, to help Creighton double up the Cougars 24-12 after six minutes.
CSU went to the long ball, including a pair of 30-foot heaves from Quinton Pippen, and would draw within 27-26 late in the first half before Manigat answered with a three-ball. The lead would remain at three or higher the rest of the day and was 45-38 at halftime. Creighton made 10 three-pointers in the first half while dishing an assist on all 13 field goals.
Creighton would open the second half on a 14-5 flurry that started with a Manigat trey and included three Wragge triples to stretch the lead to 62-44 with 12:37 left.
Creighton got strong bench play from freshman Zach Hanson in the final 10 minutes, as the forward tied a career-high with nine points. CU's lead reached as large as 33 (90-57) before a Markus Starks free throw closed the scoring in the final 30 seconds.
McDermott had yet another historic day, finishing with 24 points, six rebounds and season-best four assists. A three-pointer with 15:11 left in the first half made him the 64th player in NCAA history to surpass 2,500 career points, and he would end the day with 2,513 points to rank tied for 59th place all-time. McDermott was also a perfect 8-for-8 at the line. His 37 straight free throws eclipse the previous CU mark on record of 36 set by Booker Woodfox.
