MBB NCAA TOURNAMENT SELECTION SHOW VIEWING PARTY ON SUNDAY
Bluejay fans are invited to attend a 2013 Men’s Basketball NCAA Tournament Selection Show Viewing Party to be held Sunday at D.J. Sokol Arena inside the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center on the Creighton University campus. The selection show will air nationally on CBS starting at 5 p.m., and the venue doors will open at 4 p.m. Admission is free and concession stands will be open with food and drink available for purchase. NCAA brackets will be available at no charge and the CU Bookstore will have Bluejay merchandise available for purchase. The Creighton players and coaches will arrive at about 4:45 p.m.
THE BURNING QUESTION - WHICH CITY?
In order to help save Athletics Department personnel some phone calls, texts, voice mails and e-mails, fans should know that CU Athletics has never received any inside knowledge as to where the men's basketball team will be sent for the NCAA Tournament and that is again the case this year. Creighton officials really won’t know our team’s destination until the pairings are announced on CBS starting at 5 p.m., Sunday.
TICKET INFO FOR FOLLOWING THE JAYS TO THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
Fans interested in following the Jays to Creighton’s second-round NCAA Tournament game next week should have little trouble in obtaining tickets but purchasing tickets from CU Athletics is restricted because all participating institutions receive just 350 lower-bowl single-session tickets and up to 200 upper bowl single-session tickets regardless of site/venue assignments when the pairings are announced on Sunday. Right of first refusal on up to six (6) tickets to the second-round NCAA tournament game is a benefit of membership for Scholarship Society and Consensus All-American Jaybackers ($10,000 or more donors) and there are 45 members at those levels (270 tickets) with another batch of Creighton’s limited supply earmarked for the families of the coaches and players (approximately 150 tickets). Participating institutions only receive single-session tickets – not all-session tickets - which means access to the same number of third-round single-session tickets (second competition day) is only possible by being victorious in the second-round game. Below are the possible second/third round destinations for the 2013 championship:
Competition Days on Thursday & Saturday, March 21 & 23
Auburn Hills, Michigan
Salt Lake City, Utah
San Jose, California
Competition Days for Friday & Sunday, March 22 & 24
Kansas City, Missouri
Many of the sites listed above are NOT sold-out and have all-session tickets still available for purchase. Bluejay fans who are not Scholarship Society or Consensus All-American Jaybackers can purchase all-session tickets at sites two ways - charge online at www.ncaa.com/mbbtickets
or charge by phone at 877-NCAA-TIX. Fans of participating institutions heading to the NCAA Tournament over the years have used PrimeSport (see below) and Ticket Exchange (see below) or other avenues to obtain tickets. Fans have also contacted other schools sent to the same site as CU (and playing in Creighton’s session) or by traveling to CU’s site and “conversing” with people at the hotels or outside of the arena to purchase tickets.
MORE NCAA TOURNEY TICKET INFO - WHAT IS PRIMESPORT AND TICKET EXCHANGE?
For sites that are sold-out, fans can still purchase official NCAA ticket packages from PrimeSport, the official ticket and hospitality provider and official ticket exchange provider of the 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. For more information, go to ncaa.com/hospitality
or call 800-591-9198. Fans looking to buy tickets from other fans can do so at the Official NCAA Ticket Exchange. The Official NCAA Ticket Exchange allows fans to buy and sell tickets online to every round of the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship in a convenient, safe, and guaranteed environment. Ticket holders who are unable to attend their games or find their team eliminated prior to the final rounds of the tournament, have a place to safely sell their tickets, and the buyer, in turn, can be assured that the tickets are authentic and guaranteed. For more information, go to ncaa.com/ncaaexchange
or call 800-591-9198.
TRAVEL & LODGING INFO FOR FOLLOWING THE JAYS TO THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
Fans interested in following the Jays to the NCAA Tournament are encouraged to take the next few days to investigate their own personal travel options/expenses to the possible second-third sites listed above as an airplane charter for fans is highly unlikely due to high costs/short turnaround time (the team travel party, as an example, will learn of its destination Sunday night and could depart Omaha as early as Tuesday morning). Creighton’s team hotel in the city of destination is assigned by the NCAA – based on seeding – and that information won’t be known until shortly after the selection show Sunday night. The NCAA holds a limited number of rooms at the hotels specifically for each team’s travel party although some properties have rooms available for fans (usually at a much-higher rate) while some properties are already sold-out of rooms with the exception of the limited number being held for the team’s travel party.
