OMAHA, Neb. -- With precise passing and 14 service aces, Chinese team Tianjin Bridgestone won all four sets in a spring volleyball exhibition at Creighton on Friday night. Scores of the contest were 25-14, 25-15, 25-15, 25-18.
The match was the third of eight scheduled on Tianjin Bridgestone's tour of the US, which started with a 3-2 loss at Illinois on Tuesday and a 5-0 win at Kansas State last night. Tianjin, which heads to Lincoln to play Nebraska on Saturday evening, is one of China's top professional teams and has won eight national titles in recent years.
Creighton was led by 10 kills from Laurel Sanford, while Heather Thorson had nine putaways. Brooke Boggs led CU with 13 digs and Natalie Hackbarth 11 to top the Bluejay defense. Creighton hit .163 in the contest and setter Megan Bober had half of the team's six aces.
Tianjin Bridgestone was paced by 15 kills from Zhang Xiaoyu on .452 hitting. Tianjin hit .411 for the match, and also outdug Creighton 58-44.
Creighton's 2011 schedule, which tentatively includes a pair of home tournaments, is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
