OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton Volleyball team continues its spring season on Thursday with a 6:30 pm match against Iowa State at Carroll (Iowa) High School. The contest is a rematch of a five-set match between the schools in Harlan (Iowa) last spring.
Fans can follow live stats of Thursday's match at GoCreighton.com. The match will be decided on a best three-out-of-five set format, but at least four sets will be played. If one team wins each of the first three sets, a fourth set will be played.
The match against Iowa State will be CU's third competition date of the spring, as the team has already traveled to Manhattan, Kan., to play Kansas State, and to Vermillion, S.D., to meet both Iowa and South Dakota.
Creighton will close the spring season on April 26th when it meets Nebraska in Wayne, Neb., in "The Rumble in Rice". Fifty percent of all proceeds from the event will go to the re-construction of the Wayne Summer Sports Complex that was destroyed by the October 4th tornado that hit the Wayne area.
The volleyball program will team with the Creighton women's basketball program on May 13th when it hosts its annual "Celebrating Champions" golf outing at Tiburon Golf Club in west Omaha. Sign-ups for golfers are still being accepted, as are hole sponsorships and reservations for those that only wish to attend dinner.
The volleyball team will wrap up its spring season with a foreign trip to Nicaragua from May 15-22, where it will play matches in Managua, San Juan del Sur and Granada while touring the country located in Central America.
Creighton returns 12-of-13 letterwiners from last season's team that finished 23-9 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, losing only Savannah Smith. Elkhorn native Maggie Baumert, an incoming transfer from the University of Georgia, has also joined the team and will be participating on the trip.
