Volleyball Adds Foje; McNary & Booth Honored
OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha native Amanda Foje will join the Creighton Volleyball program beginning in the fall of 2013. Foje will serve as a defensive specialist or libero with the Bluejays.
Foje played at Omaha Duchesne, where she was named Honorable-Mention All-State in the fall of 2012 by the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star. She averaged 9.0 assists per set for the Cardinals, which ranked fifth in the state in Class B.
In other Creighton Volleyball news, Bluejay sophomore Leah McNary was named to the 2012 Cobra Magazine All-National Third Team. She is the first player from the Missouri Valley Conference named to an All-National Team in the four-year history of the publication.
McNary led Creighton with 376 kills and 3.03 kills per set last season. She was a Second-Team All-MVC selection and also named to the MVC's All-Tournament Team. McNary hails from Tarpon Springs, Fla., and will be a junior next fall.
Last but not least, Creighton coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth has been named as the CaptainU College Coach of the Year for Division I women's volleyball. Booth led her team to a 29-4 mark, setting a school-record for wins during a breakthrough campaign that saw the team claim its first MVC regular-season and tournament titles. The Bluejays reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament and were ranked 24th by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in the year-end poll.
CaptainU bills itself as the largest youth and college sports network.
