-- Creighton Volleyball senior Megan Bober
has been named MVC Defensive Player of the Week, the third straight week she's been honored by the league office.
Bober had a double-double and a triple-double while leading the Bluejays to at least a share of its first MVC title in program history. The Murdock, Neb., product averaged 9.29 assists, 4.29 digs, 1.29 blocks and 2.57 kills per set while hitting a healthy .378 and helping to hold the opposition to .084 hitting on the week.
Creighton (24-3, 15-1 MVC) never trailed Friday’s 3-0 win over Indiana State as Bober contributed 27 assists, 11 digs, six kills and five blocks while hitting .455. Creighton held ISU to .019 hitting as Creighton outscored the Sycamores, 75-40. The start was Bober’s 121st in her career, setting a program record.
Bober then capped off her home career with a match to remember, finishing with 38 assists, 19 digs, 12 kills and four blocks on Senior Night in a 3-1 win over Illinois State. It was Bober’s fifth triple-double of the season and 14th of her esteemed career, and helped Creighton clinch a share of its first title in program history. Bober’s 19 digs tied a career-best. With Creighton trailing 24-22 in the third set of a match knotted at 1-all, Bober assisted a Kelli Browning
kill, then teamed with Browning for a block to fend off a second ISU set point. Two points later, Bober hammered a set-clinching kill that sent the match to the fourth set, where she had four kills and eight digs of a 25-17 win that clinched the title. The win was her 76th in a Bluejay uniform, tying another school-record.
Bober ranks in the top-10 in Creighton history in assists, digs, aces and blocks and is the nation’s only player averaging at least 9.50 assists, 0.90 blocks and 1.75 kills per set.
A leading contender for Valley Player of the Year accolades, Bober has been named MVC Player of the Week three times this year (Aug. 27, Oct. 8, Nov. 5), MVC Defensive Player of the Week twice (Oct. 29 and Nov. 12) and has also been named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week (Aug. 29, Sept. 12, Oct. 10) three times this year.
Ranked 23rd nationally, Creighton returns to action on Friday with a 7 pm match at Wichita State.
