-- Creighton's newly crowned Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball team moved up to No. 23 in this week's AVCA Top 25 Coaches poll, it was announced on Monday. Creighton's ranking, as well as the 156 points it received, are both the highest marks for the team in program history.
Creighton (24-3, 15-1 MVC) closes the regular-season this weekend with 7 pm road matches at Wichita State (Friday) and Missouri State (Saturday). The Bluejays have already been assured the No. 1 seed and a quarterfinal round bye in the MVC Tournament, which begins Nov. 22 in Springfield, Mo.
In this week's NCAA Volleyball RPI, Creighton comes in at No. 31, up two spots from a week ago. By comparison, Creighton was ranked No. 46 in the second RPI ranking released during the 2010 season, when Creighton earned an at-large bid.
Statistically, Creighton is ranked eighth in blocks per set (3.00), eighth in winning percentage (.889), 23rd in digs per set (17.71), 32nd in hitting percentage (.254) and 78th in kills per set (13.49). Individually, sophomore Kelli Browning
is sixth in the country in blocks per set (1.63) and is 11th in hitting percentage (.406). Kate Elman
ranks 56th with 5.02 digs per set, a figure that ranks fifth-best among the nation’s freshmen.
Creighton returns to action on Friday with a 7 pm match at Wichita State.
