Bober & Ribas Honored by MVC With Weekly Scholar-Athlete Award

ST. LOUIS -- Megan Bober and Jose Ribas of Creighton University have been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.  Bober and Ribas were honored for their performances during the period of October 29-November 4.

Now in its 14th year of existence, The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete program honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.

A setter for the 25th-ranked Creighton volleyball team, Bober, a senior from Murdock, Nebraska, had a pair of triple-doubles, as the Bluejays posted road triumphs at Bradley (3-1 on November 2) and Northern Iowa (3-2 on November 3).  Bober helped Creighton set school records for single-season wins (22) and consecutive victories (10).

A four-time MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week choice in 2012, Bober, who has a 3.827 cumulative grade-point average in exercise science, averaged 10.22 assists, 2.89 digs, 2.33 kills, 0.56 blocks and 0.22 aces per set while hitting .321 in nine sets.

A midfielder for the 12th-ranked Bluejay men’s soccer team, Ribas, a sophomore from Guayaquil, Ecuador, recorded his fifth assist of the season on CU’s game-winning goal at Evansville (November 3) while playing all 90 minutes.

A three-time MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week selection in 2012, Ribas, who has a 3.60 cumulative grade-point average in business, is now tied for third overall in the Conference with assists and ranks second on the Creighton squad.  He currently stands third on the team with nine points (two goals and five assists) this season.

To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible.  In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
