ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 12 Creighton men’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback in a non-conference match against Michigan at the Wolverines’ UM Soccer Complex on Tuesday night.
Creighton (6-4-2, 2-1-1 BIG EAST) goalkeeper Alex Bolowich played a solid game for the Bluejays in net, making some tough stops in the first half to keep the game scoreless through the first 45 minutes. Bolowich finished with eight saves in the match.
However, Michigan (5-4-3, 1-2-0 Big Ten) continued the offensive pressure and finally broke through late in the second half to record the only goal of the match at 76:08. A corner kick from Michigan’s Fabio Pereira set up Lars Eckenrode’s game winner.
The Wolverines posted 18 shots against Creighton while the Bluejays notched seven. Michigan attempted seven corner kicks, while CU totaled three.
Neither team could muster a score in the first half. Michigan attempted nine shots in the first stanza while Creighton recorded five. UM took four corner kicks to three for CU before the break.
CU junior Alex Bolowich made eight saves on the evening but dropped to 5-3-1 on the season with the loss. Michigan’s Adam Grinwis moved to 5-4-3 this season and made three saves.
Creighton returns home this weekend to host BIG EAST rival Villanova in the Ameritas Classic. The Bluejays and Wildcats will kick off at 7 p.m. CT Saturday night inside Morrison Stadium.
