FAIRBAULT, Minn. - The Creighton men's soccer team battled Minnesota United FC of the NASL to a 2-2 tie on Saturday, March 22.
Creighton’s first spring contest of the 2014 was played at the soccer bubble at Shattuck-St. Mary’s, where three current Creighton players attended high school (Christian Blandon, David Abidor and Lucas Stauffer).
The first half saw a high level of intensity from both sides, Creighton scored both goals in first half via forcing Minnesota FC turnovers. Fabian Herbers scored the first goal, unassisted as he stripped a Minnesota United player of the ball and proceeded to beat another defender and have a shot on goal. Less than 10 minutes later, Marvin Iskra scored on a header off of a cross from Vincent Keller.
Minnesota FC had two opportunities on goal in the first half; however, Connor Sparrow saved both chances.
The second half saw personnel changes from both teams. Minnesota scored both goals in the second half; one in the run of play and the second goal was the result of a PK.
Creighton had several opportunities to get a third goal in the waning minutes of the second half, however Minnesota United withstood the pressure and the game concluded as a 2-2 draw.
Four former Creighton players participated for Minnesota FC in the match (Brian Kallman, Brent Kallman, Greg Jordan and Tyler Polak).
Creighton’s next match is this Saturday, March 29th, 2014 at 7:00pm vs. Denver. Admission to the game is free.
