Men's Soccer Hands Out Postseason Honors

OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton men's soccer team held its postseason awards banquet Friday night, handing out individual honors following the Bluejays' record-setting 2011 season.  Members of the team and staff were joined by soccer supporters at the Old Mattress Factory for the banquet.

Creighton posted a 21-2-1 record and reached the College Cup for the fourth time in school history in 2011, tying for the NCAA lead in victories.  The Bluejays established an NCAA record by logging a 0.20 goals against average, allowing only five goals in 24 matches.  Creighton's 19 shutouts led the nation and set school and league records, falling one clean sheet shy of the NCAA record. The team's 92.6 save percentage also led the nation.

The Bluejays won their 12th Missouri Valley Conferece Tournament title after earning their 11th MVC regular-season championship.  The Bluejays, who were the top-ranked team in the NSCAA Midwest Region all season, earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, their 19th postseason appearance in the last 20 seasons.  The Jays posted a 14-0-0 home record at Morrison Stadium, where they ranked in the top-10 in the NCAA in average attendance for the ninth straight season.

Creighton ended the season on an 11-match unbeaten streak, playing to a scoreless draw against Charlotte in the NCAA semifinals, before having its season come to an end in a shootout.  In his first season at Creighton, head coach Elmar Bolowich was named the NSCAA Midwest Region Coach of the Year and MLSsoccer.com's NCAA Coach of the Year.

Four players were drafted in January's MLS SuperDraft, tying for the most of any school in the country, while Creighton remained the only school in the nation to have at least one player drafted by the MLS in every season of its existence.  Ethan Finlay (10th to Columbus) and Andrew Duran (15th to Seattle) were just the fourth and fifth Creighton players taken in the first round, while Tyler Polak (22nd to New England) and Greg Jordan (32nd to Philadelphia) were taken in the second round.

Below were the awards handed out at Friday's banquet:
