ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Ethan Finlay and Megan Bober of Creighton University have been selected the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. Finlay and Bober were honored for their performance during the period of November 15-21.
Now in its 12th year of existence, The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies. On a weekly basis, the Conference honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.
A forward for the Creighton men’s soccer team, Finlay, a junior from Marshfield, Wisconsin, helped the Bluejays advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, scoring a total of three goals in NCAA Tournament matches versus New Mexico and SMU.
The MVC Player of the Year, Finlay, who has a 3.29 cumulative grade-point average in marketing, registered his fourth two-goal match of the season against New Mexico on November 18, leading the Jays past the Lobos, 4-1. He capped his league-best scoring total with his Valley-high 15th goal against SMU on November 21.
A setter for the Creighton volleyball team, Bober, a sophomore from Murdock, Nebraska, averaged 13.43 assists, 1.71 digs, 1.71 kills and 1.00 blocks per set in wins over Evansville (3-0) and Southern Illinois (3-1).
Bober, who has a 3.775 cumulative grade-point average in exercise science, started with 45 assists, seven digs, five kills and three blocks against Evansville. She finished with 49 assists, seven kills, five digs and four blocks against SIU.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
Creighton Men's Soccer defeated the Northwestern Wildcats 5-0 at Morrison Stadium on 8-22-15.
