OMAHA, Neb. – Two Creighton men’s soccer players scored a pair of goals for their respective teams as the annual Blue-White Scrimmage held Friday night at Morrison Stadium ended in a 2-2 draw.
The teams played a pair of 30-minute halves in the scrimmage as sophomore Fabian Herbers and junior Brendan Hines-Ike lit up the scoreboard.
Herbers opened the scoring in the first half in the 17th minute with a sliding goal off of a feed from freshman Jacob Cini to give the Blue squad a 1-0 lead. That score would hold through halftime.
In the second half, Herbers scored again off of a feed from junior Timo Pitter a few yards out to put the dark jerseys up 2-0 in the 49th minute.
The White squad struck back in the next minute as Hines-Ike scored the team’s first tally of the game to cut the Blue lead to 2-1 with 10 minutes left in regulation.
Hines-Ike knotted the game at 2-2 for the light jerseys on a pass from freshman Lucas Stauffer with just over three minutes left in the game.
That scored remained as the staff decided not to play an overtime period.
Twenty-two Bluejays saw the pitch in the first exhibition of the season, including all 11 newcomers.
Creighton travels to Wisconsin-Milwaukee for an exhibition match on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT. The Jays and the Panthers both received votes in the 2014 NSCAA Preseason Poll. Next weekend, CU will host No. 21 Wisconsin in an exhibition match on Aug. 22 inside Morrison Stadium.
