Men's Soccer Moves to No. 3 in NSCAA Top 25

OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton men's soccer team moved up two spots to No. 3 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll released Tuesday afternoon, following the Bluejays’ 1-0 double-overtime victory over then-No. 7 St. John’s last weekend.

The victory over the Red Storm marked Creighton’s first victory as a member of the BIG EAST as part of the Jays’ conference debut.

Creighton gained two spots in the poll to the third position in the NSCAA rankings. The Jays are positioned just 35 votes shy of the top slot in this week’s poll. North Carolina edged out California for the No. 1 ranking this week.

It marks the 41st consecutive week that Creighton is ranked in the NSCAA Top 25. The 2010 preseason poll was the last time the Jays were unranked.

The Bluejays’ two opponents this week received votes in the latest poll. Michigan State received two votes in the poll this week. CU battles BIG EAST foe Georgetown in Washington D.C. this weekend. The Hoyas ascended seven places to No. 12 in this week’s rankings.

The Jays moved up one spot to No. 2 in the TopDrawerSoccer Top 25 rankings this week, trailing only California in the poll. Creighton maintained its No. 3 position in the latest College Soccer News Top 30 rankings released on Monday.

The Jays’ biggest move in the rankings was in the latest Soccer America Men's Top 25 released on Tuesday; CU gained four spots to stand at No. 4 this week. Georgetown, this week’s opponent, is No. 5 in that poll after moving up seven spots.

Creighton battles non-conference foe Michigan State of the Big Ten in a BLUE OUT match at 7 p.m. Tuesday inside Morrison Stadium.

Fans attending the men’s soccer match are encouraged to wear blue apparel to create a blue out in support of prostate and testicular cancer awareness. The Bluejays will wear blue tops, shorts and socks while the Spartans will wear all white in support of the cause which is an event co-sponsored by Creighton Athletics and the Creighton student chapter of Colleges Against Cancer.
