Volleyball Sweeps Georgetown For 20th Win

OMAHA, Neb. -- Jess Bird and Michelle Sicner had double-doubles as Creighton Volleyball swept Georgetown for its 20th victory of the season on Friday night before 1,336 fans at D.J. Sokol Arena. Scores of the match were 25-19, 25-17, 27-25.

The victory lifts Creighton to 20-7 on the season and 11-4 in BIG EAST competition. CU is now in a three-way tie for second in the BIG EAST with Butler and Xavier and holds the tiebreaker over both fellow BIG EAST newcomers.

Creighton never trailed in the second set, a 25-17 win. CU led 8-7 before breaking away with a 10-3 burst to build a comfortable cushion. Bird had eight kills in the frame while Sicner had 15 assists and five digs.

Georgetown overcame a 20-16 deficit late in the third set and would own a pair of set point opportunities, but Creighton turned away both chances on kills by McNary and Bird to even the score at 25-all. CU would get a kill from Browning to reach match point, where Elman served up an ace to end the contest. Six women had multiple kills in the third set.
