Menís Soccer Stands at No. 5 in Latest NSCAA Top 25

OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton men's soccer team is ranked at No. 5 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll released Tuesday afternoon, following a two-match split last weekend at the Stihl Classic hosted by Old Dominion.

The Jays’ 2-1 double-overtime victory over Old Dominion on Friday coupled with their 3-2 double-overtime setback against William & Mary on Sunday dropped the Bluejays from their perch at No. 1 in the NSCAA Top 25 after one week.

Creighton fell four spots in the poll to the fifth position in the NSCAA rankings. The Jays are positioned just 12 votes shy of the No. 3 slot in this week’s poll. North Carolina moved into the top slot this week.

It marks the 40th consecutive week that Creighton is ranked in the NSCAA Top 25. The 2010 preseason poll was the last time the Jays were unranked.

The Bluejays’ opponent this week, BIG EAST foe St. John’s, is ranked No. 7 in the weekly rankings. Morrison Stadium will play host to a pair of top-seven nationally ranked teams in the regular season for the first time since Aug. 31, 2012 when then-No. 2 Creighton hosted then-No. 7 Akron, that contest ended in a 1-1 draw.

The match between the Jays and the Red Storm highlights homecoming festivities at Creighton this weekend and will be the first BIG EAST men’s soccer match for the Bluejays. It also will be the first BIG EAST match to be contested at Morrison Stadium.

After two weeks in the top spot, Creighton dropped two places to No. 3 in the latest College Soccer News Top 30 poll released on Monday. The Jays also rank No. 3 in the TopDrawerSoccer Top 25 rankings this week, down one spot from last week.

The Jays’ biggest tumble in the rankings was in the latest Soccer America Men's Top 25 released on Tuesday; CU fell six spots to No. 8 this week. St. John’s, this week’s opponent, is No. 6 in that poll.

Creighton hosts BIG EAST foe St. John’s this Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. CT for the Jays’ annual homecoming match. The contest will mark the Bluejays’ first BIG EAST men’s soccer match at Morrison Stadium.
