Jake Peter a Finalist for Olerud Award
LUBBOCK, Texas -- Creighton Baseball sophomore Jake Peter was one of 12 players named a finalist for the 2013 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award presented by the National College Baseball Hall of Fame on Friday, May 17.
The Olerud Award, presented on June 29 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame's annual Night of Champions, recognizes baseball players who excel both on the mound and in the field.
Peter is the Bluejays' leader in average (.345), hits (67), RBI (35) and is second in doubles (10), triples (5) as well as slugging percentage (.464). On the mound, Jake has served as the Jays' closer this season, collecting six saves and two wins in 14 appearances. Peter has a 3.07 ERA in 14.2 innings, walking just three batters and collecting 18 punch outs.
The third-seeded Bluejays and Peter begin play in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday, May 21 at 9:00 a.m. as Creighton will face No. 6 Indiana State.
