Former CU Strength & Conditioning Coach Accepts Position With USTA

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Satoshi Ochi, of Omaha, Neb., has been named Strength and Conditioning Specialist, USTA Sport Science. Ochi will join the Player Development staff at the USTA Training Center and Player Development Headquarters in Boca Raton, Fla., on April 1 and will report to Dr. Mark Kovacs, Manager, USTA Sport Science, USTA Player Development.

Prior to joining the USTA, Ochi served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at his alma mater, Creighton University, where he designed and conducted strength training and conditioning programs for the school's Division I athletes. In addition, Ochi helped measure and evaluate Omaha's top-ranked junior tennis players' strength and conditioning abilities as a Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at the USTA Competition Training Center run by the Omaha Tennis Association.

Ochi, 34, transferred to Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., from Japan's Tokai University in 1993. He was a member of Creighton's men's tennis team from 1994-97 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science. He went on to pursue graduate work and earned a Master of Arts in Exercise Science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2000. While working on his graduate degree, Ochi helped design and conduct strength and conditioning programs for current and future Olympians at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Ochi is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Since 2004, Ochi has received the NSCA's Coach Practitioner distinction recognizing him as an elite strength and conditioning professional in the United States.

USTA Player Development is charged with providing American junior, collegiate and young professional players with the opportunities to reach their maximum potential.
