A $2.7 million renovation of the Creighton University Sports Complex has given the baseball and softball programs a new artificial surface for practice and competition plus a 15,000 square foot indoor complex complete with batting cages, locker rooms, an umpire’s room, athletic training facilities, staff offices, VIP viewing areas, storage and concessions.

In 2000, Jackie Gaughan generously supported the construction of CU’s baseball and softball indoor complex and he requested that the building be named in honor of his mother, Kitty. The Kitty Gaughan Pavilion was formally dedicated on October 27, 2001.

In addition to the construction of the Kitty Gaughan Pavilion, the CU Sports Complex’s 140,000 square feet of artificial turf was replaced with the SafePlay surface, the same turf used by the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys at Texas Stadium while all four dugouts two for baseball and two for softball were redesigned and relocated, giving both programs better use of space and more safety for the student-athletes.
