Jake Peter Selected in 7th Round by Chicago White Sox

OMAHA, Neb. - Junior Jake Peter was selected in the seventh round of the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft with the 198th overall pick by the Chicago White Sox on Friday, June 6.

Peter becomes the 17th selection in the MLB draft in the 11 years Ed Servais has been at the helm of Bluejay baseball.  Peter becomes Creighton's highest draft pick since Ty Blach signed with the San Francisco Giants in the fith round (No. 178 overall) in the 2012 season. 

Peter closed the 2014 season second on the team with a .299 average, collecting 59 hits.  He was also second for the Bluejays with 37 RBI as well as four home runs. Jake posted a .377 mark in BIG EAST games, with eight extra base hits (five doubles, one triple and two home runs) and 14 RBI. A two-way player, Peter recorded one save with a 2-1 record and a 2.35 ERA in seven appearances.

Peter had a breakout 2013, both at the plate and on the mound.  Jake was the Bluejays' leader in average (.350), hits (71), RBI (35) and is second in doubles (10), triples (5) as well as slugging percentage (.463).  On the mound, Jake has served as the Jays' closer this season, collecting six saves and two wins in 14 appearances.  Peter finished with a 3.07 ERA in 14.2 innings, walking just three batters and collecting 18 punch-outs.

During the summer of 2013 Jake was invited to participate in a Team USA training camp, named a finalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award and a semifinalist for the Gregg Olson Award, created to honor college baseball's "Breakout Player of the Year".
