Women's Soccer Glides By Vandals, 6-1

OMAHA, Neb. - Matching a season-high of six goals, the Creighton women's soccer team glided by Idaho 6-1 on Sunday, Sept. 8.

The win lifted the Bluejays to 3-2-0, matching Creighton's win total from all of 2012 (3-13-0).  Idaho fell to 0-5-0 in 2013.

Fresh off her BIG EAST Defensive Player of Week honor, senior Kelsey O'Donnell got the Bluejays going Sunday afternoon with a goal and an assist in the opening period.  O'Donnell's goal came on a free kick along the right side of the field from 35 yards at 15:34.  Her goal was set up by an Idaho foul and yellow card assessed to Amanda Pease.

Midway through the period it was O'Donnell setting up fellow defender, Jill Richgels, along the left side. O'Donnell sent the ball past a defender to give Richgels a one-on-one path with Vandal goalkeeper, Marina Siegl.  Richgels slipped her shot into the right corner of the net to make it 2-0 in the 37th minute.

A mere 40 seconds later the Jays tacked on a third goal as Creighton nabbed the ball off an errent pass, allowing senior Lauren Cingoranelli to glide up the left side.  Cingoranelli found sophomore Kyla Booker in the center of the field for her first goal as a Jay.

Following halftime the Jays added a fourth goal on a header from freshman Ylenia Sachau, her goal came after a failed corner clear by Idaho allowed Cingoranelli to loft the bail to Sachau in the midfield.

Idaho got on the board in the 63rd minute via an unassisted goal from Alyssa Pease, but sophomore Kirstyn Corder put the match away with goals in the 69th and 73rd minutes.  Corder's first goal was set up by freshman Lauren Sullivan, while the final tally was unassisted.

The Jays return to the pitch on Tuesday, Sept. 10 as Creighton travels to Kansas City, Mo. to take on UMKC at 7:00 p.m.
