Softball Signs Eck for 2015 Season

OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton softball head coach Brent Vigness announced Thursday that Sydnee Eck recently signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Bluejays during the 2014-15 season.

Eck is currently a freshman right-handed pitcher at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan.  With a team high of 30 appearances in the circle, she boasts a 24-4 record, a 0.81 ERA and 187 strikeouts this season. At the plate, she leads the Grizzlies with 13 homers and 49 RBI and ranks second on the squad with a .407 batting average and 46 hits.

The Andale, Kan., native’s 0.81 ERA currently ranks No. 2 nationally in the NJCAA. Eck’s 24 wins rank sixth in the country and her strikeout total of 187 rates eighth nationwide. Her home run total of 13 is No. 38 nationally while her slugging percentage of .823 comes in at No. 31 in the country.

Eck recently helped lead Butler to its fourth consecutive conference title. She earned a victory in both games from the circle and hit a home run in a pair of wins at Barton last week.

Butler is the same school that starred current CU juniors Alex and Mac Millspaugh prior to this season. The Grizzlies have been perennial mainstays at the NJCAA Softball Division I Championship Tournaments in recent years under the direction of head coach Doug Chance and are on track to do it again with a 31-7 overall and a No. 7 ranking in the latest NJCAA Division I poll.

Prior to her arrival in El Dorado, Eck sat out a season and spent a year as a student at Kansas State without playing softball.

In high school, Eck led Andale-Garden Plain to three straight state titles in Kansas Class 4A and claimed three All-Metro selections from the Wichita Eagle. As a senior she posted a record of 17-0 while striking out 203 batters in 103.3 innings pitched. Eck also hit .474 with 14 home runs.

Eck joins four fall signees at CU for the 2015 season in TaShiana Coffiel-Nelson, Hayleigh Evans, Allie Webb and Michelle Trulin.

Vigness and his Jays host Providence for Senior Weekend beginning with a doubleheader slated for 12 p.m. CT on Saturday at the CU Sports Complex. A ceremony honoring Creighton’s six seniors will take place between games of the doubleheader.
