Bob Hanson enters his second year as the head coach of the men’s golf program. Hanson, who also doubles as the compliance director for the Bluejay athletic department, is no stranger to the coaching profession. Along with his wife Sharon, Hanson won four state titles as a co-head coach of the West Des Moines Dowling High School girl’s basketball program and one with Des Moines East.
The couple was honored as the national coaches of the year in 2003 by the National High School Athletics Coaches Association. Hanson was hired in June 2005 and was named head coach for the men’s golf program in 2007.
“I thank Debbie Conry for the outstanding job she has done over the past 14 years as the head coach of both our men’s golf and women’s golf programs,” said CU Director of Athletics Bruce Rasmussen. “However, the expanding demands of both golf programs and our desire to strengthen our commitment to both golf programs make it imperative that we have a separate head coach for each sport. We are excited to have Bob Hanson as our head men’s golf coach. Hanson assisted with the men’s golf program in 2006-07 and did an outstanding job.”
At the time of Hanson’s hire, it was Creighton’s first head coaching change in any sport since the appointment of cross country coach John Wissler in August 2003. The Bluejays had been the nation’s only Division I school with the same head coaches in all its sports during that four-year span.
