Last Week The Bluejays put themselves in prime position to become Creighton’s first team to claim a BIG EAST Championship, taking two of three from St. John’s to move into sole possession of first place with just one series remaining.
This Week It’ll be a busy week for Creighton as the Bluejays host Stephen F. Austin and Nebraska in a day/night doubleheader on Tuesday, then face Xavier in Ohio on Thursday - Saturday.
Looking Ahead Creighton has clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament, beginning on May 22. Three of the four teams in the tournament have been set as Seton Hall and St. John’s have also secured a spot.

Sophomore RHP Tommy Strunc (12.79 ERA, 0-2, 10 app, 4 starts, 12.2 IP, 15 H, 19 R, 18 ER, 15 BB, 12 K) will get the start in the opening game, while the starter against the Huskers will not be known until after the first contest.
Creighton enters Tuesday with a 3.92 team ERA, while the Bluejays are hitting .267 as a unit. Reagan Fowler leads the Bluejays with a .354 average, while Jake Peter has come on strong over the last two weeks to raise his average to .320.
Nebraska vs. Creighton Series Less than an hour apart, Creighton and Nebraska are fmiliar foes on the baseball field. Nebraska holds an 84-42-2 series edge on the Bluejays. The Huskers have already secured the 2014 series by taking the first two meetings.
When playing in Omaha, the Huskers hold a 48-15-1 edge over the Bluejays. Coach Servais is 12-21 versus Nebraska in his career.
Nebraska took the first meeting between the two squads on March 18, 5-4 in ten innings and also claimed a 4-2 decision on April 8 at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
Scouting the Huskers (34-17, 15-5 Big Ten) Nebraska has won seven straight and 10 of its last 11 games to move into contention for at-large consideration as the 2014 season winds to a close.
Neither Creighton nor Nebraska have named starters for the Tuesday night contest. The Huskers enter play with a 3.61 team ERA, limiting opponents to four runs or less in nine of their last ten games.
While Nebraska’s pitching has been lights out, the bats have been getting red hot. Over the last seven game the Huskers have averaged just under seven runs per game.
Final Regular Season Matchup Has Been Pivotal for the Bluejays Since 1988, Creighton has won the final regular season meeting with Nebraska six times (1991, 1992, 2005, 2007, 2011 & 2012). Each victory proved to be a precursor to a trip to the NCAA Regionals.
The last time Creighton made the NCAA Tournament without claiming the final regular season meeting with Nebraska was in 2000.
Adept at Avoiding the Sweep Creighton was down 2-0 to Nebraska in the season series in both 2011 and 2012, but were able to avoid the sweep with a 9-8 win in 2011 and with an 8-1 victory in 2012. The last time Nebraska swept the Bluejays came in 2008. Creighton’s last sweep of the Huskers came in 1974.
Bluejays Showing Poise of Champions Creighton is 9-2 games decided by one run this year. Each of Ed Servais’ first three teams to win 9+ 1-run games (2005, 2007, 2011) have gone on to reach the NCAA Regionals.
Speaking of Championships The Bluejay Baseball can clinch at least a share of the first BIG EAST Championship in school history with two victories against Xavier in Ohio.
