QUEENS, N.Y. - The Creighton women's basketball team fell to St. John's, 67-48, on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
The loss dropped Creighton to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the BIG EAST Conference. St. John's, meanwhile, moved to 9-5 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
Turnovers plagued the Bluejays in the opening half as Creighton committed 11 in the opening period, leading to 15 St. John's points. Creighton fell down 9-2 in the opening seven minutes and trailed 35-17 at the intermission.
After shooting 4-of-19 (21%) in the opening frame, the Bluejays got their offense rolling early in the second period. Creighton scored on three of its first four possessions in the second period, cutting the deficit to 13 at 37-24 with 17:52 remaining.
Creighton got as close as 12 at 41-29, but the Bluejay run was short lived as St. John's answered with a 10-0 response to make it 51-29 (11:10). Creighton trailed by as much as 25 (63-38) with 4:37 left, before falling 67-48.
Four players finished in double-figures for St. John's led by 16 points from Danaejah Grant. Amber Thompson and Eugeneia McPherson finished with 11, while Jade Walker delivered 10 points.
The Bluejays return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11 as Creighton faces Providence at 1 p.m.
