Federico Castagnini Forgoes Senior Year, Signs with Baltimore Orioles
OMAHA, Neb. - Junior Federico Castagnini officially signed to play professional baseball in the Baltimore Orioles organization. Castagnini's signing was announced on Saturday, July 13.
In his lone season at Creighton, Castagnini played third base for the Bluejays, the Orioles requested he be listed as a shortstop during the MLB Draft.
A two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week (April 8 & 22), Castagnini also earned All-MVC Honorable Mention last season. He closed 2013 with a .320 average, fourth for Creighton, including 54 hits (eight doubles) and 27 RBI. Hitting in the number two hole for the majority of the season, Castagnini was consistently in the top five of the NCAA in sacrifice's per game, wrapping the season second overall with 0.44 per game (19 SH in 44 games).
Castagnini has been assigned to the Aberdeen IronBirds of the New York Penn League (Short A).
