ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- For the second time in four years, the Creighton University Sports Information Office has been named the best in the Missouri Valley Conference. The award was announced on Monday at league meetings for marketing, sports information and athletic video department staffers from around The Valley.

Now in its eighth year, the award is selected by the Valley media relations staff of Mike Kern, Kelli Briscoe, Kristin Gregory and Derrick Docket.

"The MVC is blessed to have some of the best and brightest media relations specialists in the nation," said Kern. "The Creighton staff continues to set a high standard of excellence in sports information and the league office was proud to single out Rob, Rob and Shannon for the hard work they did last year, which included the promotion of a national coach of the year, multiple coaching changes in high profile sports, several NCAA berths, and their involvement in the College World Series in a brand-new state of the art facility in Omaha."

Creighton's 2010-11 sports information office staff consisted of Sports Information Director Rob Anderson, Associate Sports Information Director Rob Simms, intern Shannon Pivovar and student assistant Danny O'Byrne serving as the sport contacts. The staff also relies heavily on a core group of 15-25 volunteers who staff more than 100 home events throughout the season.

During the 2010-11 season, Creighton hosted the MVC Tournament in both baseball and women's soccer, while once again serving as the host institution for the College World Series. Four Creighton teams reached the NCAA Tournament (baseball, volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer), while both basketball teams also played in the postseason. Within the last 15 months, Creighton has also hired high-profile coaches in both men's basketball (Greg McDermott) and men's soccer (Jamie Clark and Elmar Bolowich) and had three MVC Coaches of the Year (Bruce Erickson, Jamie Clark and Ed Servais) in addition to one National Coach of the Year (Kirsten Bernthal Booth). Creighton also joined the West Coast Conference in women's rowing, after a long run as an independent.

The 2010-11 campaign saw Creighton become one of the first schools nationally to partner with Stat Broadcast Systems, a live stats platform that has also gained Bradley, Illinois State, UNI and the MVC as clients in the last nine months. Creighton also made huge strides in social media platorms such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, in addition to coordinating blog entries from men's basketball forward Doug McDermott and women's basketball assistant coach Carrie Moore.

Missouri State won the inaugural trophy in 2004 before Illinois State won the award in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Creighton won its first honor in 2008, and was followed in 2009 by Missouri State. Northern Iowa was the 2010 honoree.
