Volleyball Up One Spot To No. 22 in AVCA Rankings

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton Volleyball program moved up one spot to No. 22 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association's top-25 poll released today. It's the 10th straight week dating to last season the Bluejays have been in the poll.

Creighton (9-3) had been No. 23 a week ago and was idle last weekend. The Bluejays moved ahead of Purdue, which dropped from No. 20 to No. 24 after an 0-2 start in Big Ten play. Washington is the nation's new No. 1 team as one of the nation's four remaining unbeaten squads.

Creighton has already defeated five NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, and all 12 non-conference opponents it scheduled are in the top-125 of the current Pablo rankings the sport uses. In addition, six of Creighton's 12 non-conference opponents have spent time in the top-25 this season, while Cal State Northridge has earned votes.

Last season Creighton moved into the national rankings for the first time in program history on November 5, moving into the No. 25 spot in the poll. The Bluejays were also ranked 23rd (Nov. 12), 21st (Nov. 19) and No. 24 in the year-end poll. This year's Bluejay team was ranked No. 25 in the preseason poll before moving to a best-ever No. 19 four weeks ago. CU has since been No. 24 once and No. 23 twice before this week's rise.

The Bluejays open BIG EAST Conference play on Friday, Oct. 4 with a 6 pm match at Butler.
