Buckner Leads Women's Soccer to Fourth Straight Win, 1-0 at UMKC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Behind a goal in the 12th minute from hometown girl, junior Madelyn Buckner, the Creighton women's soccer team downed UMKC, 1-0, on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

The win lifted the Jays to 4-2-0 on the season, while UMKC fell to 3-3-1.  Creighton has won four consecutive matches for the first time since the Jays' program record 10-match win streak in 2010.

The Bluejays got out to an quick 1-0 lead as Buckner converted a corner play from sophomore Jill Richgels at 11:09.  Richgels sent the corner entry from right to left just in front of the goal, Buckner received the pass and one touched the ball into the net from five yards away for her first goal of the season and second of her career.

Freshman Danielle Rice and the Jays' defense did the rest as Creighton held UMKC scoreless.  Creighton limited the Roos to just two shots in the opening period and seven in the match.

Rice needed to make three saves to collect her first intercollegiate shutout, earlier this year she played the bulk of a shared shutout (6-0) win over North Dakota on Aug. 30.

The Jays outshot UMKC 10-7 in the match, while corners were tied at 6-6.  Roos goalkeeper Nina Tzianos suffered the loss, despite making six saves.

Creighton returns to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 13th as Creighton will host South Dakota at 7 p.m. in Morrison Stadium.
