1620 The Zone Names Men's Basketball Announcers

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton University will keep things close to home with a radio team familiar to Bluejay fans and alums alike, as 1620 the Zone announced the new on-air duo that will broadcast Bluejay Basketball this winter.

Current Creighton Baseball announcer and 1620 the Zone afternoon co-host of "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" John Bishop will handle play-by-play duties, while former Bluejay Nick Bahe will resume his role as the team's analyst for the sixth straight season.

Bahe said he is energized to be part of a team that includes Bishop. "John Bishop is one of the best in the business," said Bahe. "This will be a great broadcast team."

Bishop has more than 20 years doing play-by-play broadcasts in the state, getting his start while in college at KRNU in Lincoln. He's been part of the Creighton Baseball broadcast team since 2006.

"John Bishop has delivered literally hundreds of radio sports broadcasts," said Andy Ruback, 1620 the Zone General Manager. "John has also been the voice of Creighton Baseball for a long time, and the fans are familiar with his talents."

Bahe adds basketball depth and knowledge to the broadcast team, having played at both Kansas and Creighton before beginning his broadcast career while a graduate manager on the Creighton coaching staff in 2008. He recently was named to host "The Nick Bahe Show" on 1620 the Zone, which starts on August 5th.

"Nick Bahe has been the color analyst on Bluejay Basketball broadcasts for many years and knows the players, coaches and strategies as well as anyone," said Bishop. "He is uniquely qualified to describe and analyze the action on the court."

This year's Bluejay Basketball coverage is especially pivotal as the team enters into its first year of BIG EAST Conference play. "It's a big season, and everything will be elevated," Ruback said. "John Bishop and Nick Bahe are the right team to handle this spotlight."

Bruce Rasmussen, Creighton’s Director of Athletics, said today’s announcement is an important piece to the partnership between Bluejay Basketball and 1620 The Zone.

“We believe John Bishop and Nick Bahe will be an outstanding broadcast team for our men’s basketball games,” Rasmussen said. “We have had a great relationship with John for quite some time and he is very good at what he does. We also think very highly of Nick and believe he is one of the best young college basketball analysts in the country. Since they are both 1620 The Zone on-air personalities, it provides us an even better presence in the Omaha radio market while giving NRG Media the ability to cross-promote with all of its stations and shows and take our partnership to the fullest extent possible.”

Bishop and Bahe will cover every men's basketball game, home and away, beginning with the Creighton-Northern State exhibition game on November 1 at CenturyLink Center Omaha. In addition to pre-game and post-game shows affiliated with each Creighton-produced game broadcast, 1620 the Zone will also provide expanded coverage for each contest with its own pre-game show and post-game show from the studio or at a remote site to be determined.
