Omaha, Neb. - Displaying the type of offensive firepower that could lead to a very exciting season, the Creighton women's soccer team notched 10 goals in a 5-5 tie at the Blue and White Scrimmage on Sunday, Aug. 5. 

The game ended in dramatic fashion as sophomore Emma Auld scored her third goal of the match in the closing seconds to salvage the tie for the Blue team. 

Head coach Bruce Erickson tailored his scrimmage, choosing to play two 30-minute periods and one 20-minute period to allow players to switch sides at the breaks.

The White team opened the scoring in the ninth minute as junior Lauren Cingoranelli took a crossing pass from sophomore Madelyn Buckner along the left side of the field.  Cingoranelli blazed past her defender to coral the pass, then raced 15 feet to blast a goal into the right corner of the net.

Auld got the Blue team on the scoreboard at the 24-minute mark, capitalizing on a penalty kick call to tie the game at 1-1.

White responded in short order as junior Kelsey O'Donnell fielded a crossing pass in the middle from senior Sarah Kendall, then directed the ball into the right corner at 25:50 to give White a 2-1 edge.

Just over three minutes later, Kendall and O'Donnell teamed up again.  This time it was O'Donnell setting up Kendall as she drew the keeper out to the left side of the net to set up Kendall for an open netter extending White's lead to 3-1. 

O'Donnell continued to shine in the 44th minute, finding Cingoranelli streaking down the right side for a one-on-one matchup with the goalie.  Cingoranelli capitalized on the opportunity by blasting a goal into the left corner.

Trailing 4-1, the Blue team gathered themselves and responded quickly by converting a corner kick. Freshman Jill Richgels inserted the pass to Kendall, who switched sides to begin the second period, as she fired a shot into the net.  Kendall's effort was blocked, but Auld collected the bounce and found sophomore Stephanie Anasi open in front of the net.  Anasi made the most of her opportunity, rocketing the ball into the netting to pull Blue with two at 4-2.

White's final goal of the contest came in the 53rd minute thanks to the speed of freshman Alyssa Jara.  Blazing by her defender in the midfield, Jara outran the keeper to fire an unassisted goal into an open net.

Auld seemed to take the fifth goal personally as she led the Blue team to a dominant third period.  Auld notched two goals and an assist over the final twenty minutes.  Auld posted her second goal of the game just three minutes into the final period, redirecting a blocked shot sent in by Kendall to the back of the net to make it 5-3 at the 62:18 mark.  

With the game winding down, Anasi fired a shot of freshman goalkeeper Kyla Salazar.  The ball bounced right to Auld, who found Kendall open in front of the net with a crossing pass from the left side.  Kendall scored her first goal for the Blue team (second of the game) with 4:19 remaining (76th minute) to make it a 5-4 game.

Auld's final tally came with just eight seconds remaining in the contest as she was in the right place once again.  Anasi fired a shot towards the net that was blocked by a White defender, but Auld was there to clean up with her third goal of the contest.

Creighton's starting keeper, Swanson, allowed just two goals in 80 minutes as she played for the White team in periods one and two, then for Blue in the final period.

Creighton continues its exhibition season on Saturday, Aug. 11 as the Bluejays face North Dakota State in a neutral site match at 2:30 in Blaine, Minn.  Creighton will wrap up their exhibition season on Tuesday, Aug. 14 with a road match against Minnesota State-Mankato at 5 p.m.
