The women's basketball team qualified for the national postseason in each of his first four years, making the NCAA Tournament after MVC regular-season and tournament championships in 2002. The basketball team has made seven WNIT appearances since 2003, winning the 2004 postseason WNIT. The softball team has won five of the last eight Missouri Valley Conference tournament championships and appeared in six NCAA tournaments in the last nine seasons, while cracking the national top-25 for the first time in school history.
Simms joined the Creighton sports information staff as an intern in January 2001, after serving as a communications intern for Nashua Pride Professional Baseball in Nashua, N.H., during the summer of 2000. While with the Pride, then a member of the independent Atlantic League, Simms was responsible for game-day notes, statistics, and game recaps, as well as game-day and group ticket sales for the 2000 Atlantic League Champions.
A 2000 graduate of Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., Simms was a communications major and four-year letter winner in baseball. He owns the school single-season pitching record for games started (14) and ranks in the top 10 in three career categories, including a second-place ranking in appearances (46).
A member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), he was promoted to Associate Sports Information Director in October 2007, after serving as Assistant SID since 2001.
