No. 9 Men's Basketball Earns Highest AP Rank Ever

OMAHA, Neb. -- The first-place Creighton Men's Basketball has earned its highest ranking in school history, coming in at No. 9 in this week's Associated Press poll. The Bluejays are also 10th in the USA Today Coaches poll and seventh in this week's RPI released by the NCAA.

Off to a 23-4 start and a 13-2 league record during its inaugural BIG EAST campaign, Creighton has won eight of nine games to move into the top-10.

Creighton's No. 9 ranking in the AP poll is the best in program history, surpassing the No. 10 mark that had been reached on Jan. 20, 2003. This is the 36th different week in 74 polls that a Greg McDermott-led Creighton team has been in the the AP Top 25.

The USA Today coaches poll placed Creighton 10th, a feat last done on Jan. 14, 2013. Creighton's highest coaches poll ranking ever is believed to be ninth, done Jan. 20, 2003.

The RPI has Creighton ranked seventh, up one spot from last Monday.

Statistically, Creighton remains the national leader in assist/turnover ratio (1.82) and three-point field goal percentage (.428). CU is second in assists per game (18.0), three-pointers per game (10.3) and three-pointers made (279), third in assists (487), fifth in field goal percentage (.499), eighth in scoring margin (14.1) and 10th in win-loss percentage (.852).

Individually, Doug McDermott leads the nation in scoring for a second straight week and averages 26.0 points per game. McDermott also ranks second in field goals made (241) and is third in points (701).

Fellow senior Ethan Wragge is second in the nation in three-point percentage (.500), while also ranking ninth with 91 three-pointers made and 10th with 3.37 three-pointers per game. In addition, Jahenns Manigat's assist/turnover ratio of 3.82 is fifth-best in the country.

Creighton returns to action on Saturday with a 4:07 pm game at Xavier.
