had 14 kills to lead a balanced attack as Creighton Volleyball shook off a first set loss to post a 3-1 win at St. John's on Friday night in Queens, N.Y. Scores of Creighton's first-ever win over the Red Storm were 14-25, 25-22, 25-21, 29-27.
Creighton improved to 19-6 with the win, and remained in a tie for second place (with Xavier) in the BIG EAST at 10-3. St. John's, which stunned Creighton in Omaha two weeks ago, dropped to 15-14 (4-9 BIG EAST).
In addition to McNary's offensive display, Kelli Browning
had 11 kills and Jess Bird
added 10 kills. Kate Elman
paced the defense with 18 digs, while Michelle Sicner
(22 assists) and Ashley Jansen
(16 assists) shared setting duties. Creighton finished with 49 kills, five aces, 53 digs and 13 blocks on the evening while hitting .171.
St. John's finished with 51 kills, seven aces, 58 digs and 11 blocks on .163 hitting. Aleksandra Wachowicz had 22 kills on .288 hitting to pace the Red Storm, while Shawna-Lei Santos added a match-best 23 digs.
"I thought St. John's played a great match," said Creighton coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth
. "They had a couple of key players that were really effective, but our block did good job containing them. We had 13 blocks and a lot more that they covered, and it was really important to our success."
Creighton returns to action on Saturday at 3 pm Central when it visits Seton Hall.
