What Others Are Saying About Doug McDermott
Gregg Marshall - Wichita State (March 2)
“He’s a great player. What’s not to like about the way he plays the game? He really works and today he got loose. And once he got loose it was hard to get him back under control. He was really special.’’

Grant Gibbs - Creighton (March 2)
“He’s had a lot of performances where he’s had 25 or 30 and it didn’t feel like he did, but that was an extremely loud 41. Every one of his buckets was huge. He was in a great rhythm, and it’s probably the best performance I’ve ever been a part of.”

Dick Vitale - ESPN (Jan. 7)
“Let’s start with my midseason Player of the Year choice. I will go with Creighton’s Doug McDermott. There are a number of viable candidates, but I like the junior forward. The versatile, multitalented Bluejay is all about winning and is very unselfish. His presence on the court forces defenses to adjust and it creates angles for his teammates.”

Jimmy Dykes - @JimmyDykesLive (Jan. 11)
“McDermott has to be leading player of year race now. Slight edge over Burke and Plumlee. Start watching this kid. He’s authentic and humble”

Jeff Goodman ‏- @GoodmanCBS (Jan. 11)
“And for anyone who doesn’t think McDermott could put those numbers up in a high-major league, they are wrong. Kid can flat-out score.”

Seth Davis - ‏@SethDavisHoops (Jan. 11)
“I’ve been saying Doug McDermott is my POY for last 2 weeks. Tonight he showed why by scoring 39 pts in a win at Missouri St.”

Lyndal Scranton - Springfield News-Leader (Jan. 12)
“McDermott is fun to watch – unless you’re going against him or I suspect part of a fan base cheering against him. He scored with a variety of shots – in the post, mid-range, from 3. He used his left hand and right hand. Spin moves. Cuts. Drop steps. Fadeaways.”

Marty Simmons - Evansville (Dec. 29)
“We tried different guys on him, but he’s one of the best players in the country and there’s a reason why. We wanted to limit his touches, didn’t want to foul him, and keep him off the offensive glass. You look at his stats, and we didn’t execute. Give him credit. He does it every night.’’

Phil Martelli - Saint Joseph’s (Nov. 28)
“This kid is Larry Bird. McDermott is Larry Bird. He is this year’s Larry Bird. He has all the stuff.”

Bo Ryan - Wisconsin (Dec. 10)
“Doug is the consumate worker and a basketball IQ guy. He just had his way with us, which didn’t surprise anybody, although you’d like to think you could hold somebody down.”
