Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision at Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The No. 7 Creighton men’s soccer team dropped a BIG EAST conference match 1-0 to Marquette at the Golden Eagles’ Valley Fields on Saturday night.

Creighton (6-3-2, 2-1-1 BIG EAST) suffered its first setback in a conference match as a member of the BIG EAST. Marquette (8-3-1, 4-0-0 BIG EAST) remained in first place in the league with the win. The Golden Eagles’ goal is the first scored by a BIG EAST opponent against the Jays’ defense.

In the 23rd minute, Marquette’s C. Nortney scored his seventh goal of the season and fourth straight game winner for the Golden Eagles to give the home squad a 1-0 lead. MU’s Paul Dillon earned the assist.

MU maintained the advantage heading into the locker rooms at halftime. Each team attempted seven shots in the first half while Marquette posted four corners to two by Creighton.

Neither team could muster a score in the second half. Again, the shots were even at eight a side after the break. MU led the corners by two again in the second stanza, 5-3.

CU junior Alex Bolowich made five saves on the evening but dropped to 5-2-1 on the season with the loss. Marquette’s Charlie Lyon moved to 8-3-1 this season and made four saves.

Creighton continues its road trip next week with a non-conference match at Michigan on Tuesday. The Jays and Wolverines will play at 6 p.m. CT in Ann Arbor. The match will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
