OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton men’s soccer team took time out from studying and training last weekend to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha.
Two groups of Bluejays performed several hours of community service at a home in North Omaha on Saturday.
The first group arrived in the morning and proceeded to take down two layers of siding throughout the morning to help prepare the home for further work. The second group took over in the afternoon. The players cleaned up the site and also installed new drywall.
Last weekend’s volunteer efforts by the men’s soccer team are not uncommon. So far during the 2012-13 school year players from the squad have logged over 330 hours of community service.
Creighton assistant coach Johnny Torres helps spearhead the team’s community service projects and has been actively involved in those efforts since his time as player here in Omaha.
The Bluejays return to the pitch this weekend when they host a spring exhibition match against Denver slated for 6 p.m. CT Saturday at Morrison Stadium. The match is open to the public and admission is free.
