A former Bluejay himself (2008-09), Cafaro returns to Creighton after serving as the graduate assistant coach at University of Southern Indiana last season.  Working with the infielders and coaching third base, Cafaro helped guide the Screaming Eagles to the NCAA Division II national championship in 2014.

Before coming to Southern Indiana, Cafaro spent a season as an assistant coach for the Hickory Crawdads, a Class A affiliate of the Texas Rangers organization. He also signed a minor-league contract with the Texas Rangers organization in 2009, playing one year the Arizona Rangers, Texas’ rookie league squad.

"I'm very excited to come back to Creighton. As a former player I have experience with coach Servais as well as his system. I hope to help this team return to the NCAA Tournament." said Cafaro.

"Cafaro is a high energy guy that has a great feel for infield play," said Servais.  "Having been such a successful infielder here at Creighton, he can continue the system we have in place and free me up to spend more time with our pitchers."

During his two seasons at Creighton, Cafaro started 111 of 113 games over the two years, hitting .318 with 66 RBIs, 29 doubles, four triples, and 10 home runs. The native of Maracay, Venezuela, also earned a Rawlings Gold Glove as the nation’s top field second baseman in 2009.

In addition his two seasons at Creighton, Cafaro also played college baseball for one season at Iowa Western Community College (2007) and Wayne State College (2006). He batted .441 and won an NJCAA Gold Glove during his season at IWCC, leading the Tigers to the NJCAA World Series.

Cafaro earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Creighton.
