NEW YORK, N.Y. - Five Bluejays were honored as the All-BIG EAST Teams were announced on Monday, May 19 highlighted by BIG EAST Co-Player of the Year Reagan Fowler and BIG EAST Coach of the Year Ed Servais.
In addition to Fowler, senior Mike Gerber, junior Jake Peter and sophomore Matt Warren were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Gerber was the lone hitter to earn a unanimous selection. Sophomore Bryan Sova, meanwhile, was selected to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
Fowler led Creighton in hitting with a .358 average on the season, including a .420 mark in BIG EAST play. Reagan collected 62 hits, including 15 doubles, three triples and 25 RBI in his sophomore campaign. A two-time BIG EAST Player of the Week, Fowler has five game-winning RBI for the Bluejays this season and also led the team with nine stolen bases.
Creighton's last conference Player of the Year was Darin Ruf in 2007. At the time Ruf was also a sophomore first baseman, earning the honor in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC).
Servais led the Bluejays to the first BIG EAST Championship (Regular Season or Tournament) in school history as the Bluejays posted a 14-4 mark in their first season in the BIG EAST. He also led Creighton to the 30-win plateau for the ninth time in his 11 seasons at Creighton. Servais captured the seventh Coach of the Year honor in his career, but it was his first as a coach in the BIG EAST Conference. Servais was the MVC Coach of the Year in 2004, 2005 & 2011 and the Coach of the Year in the MIAC (Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) in 1993 and 1990.
Gerber closed the regular season with 2014 regular season with a BIG EAST best 10 home runs, including two in BIG EAST Play. Gerber closed the 2014 season with a .277 average, including 21 extra base hits (10 home runs, 10 doubles and one triple). He leads the Bluejays with 46 RBI and a .492 slugging percentage.
Peter finished second on the team with a .303 average, collecting 56 hits. He was also second for the Bluejays with 34 RBI and collecting one save in limited work on the mound. Jake posted a .377 mark in BIG EAST games, with eight extra base hits (five doubles, one triple and two home runs) and 14 RBI.
Warren posted a 9-1 record on the mound this season, posting a 1.93 ERA in 79.1 innings. Warren was even better in BIG EAST play, posting a 3-1 mark with a 1.39 ERA in 32.1 innings. Matt notched 42 strikeouts and surrendered just 23 walks during the regular season.
Sova posted a 5-1 record in 2014, with nine saves in 49.1 innings. Bryan saved his best performance for the final weekend of BIG EAST play, tossing a complete game in his first career start and earning the save the following day to help Creighton claim its first BIG EAST Championship in any sport. The epitome of a control pitcher, Sova has 30 strikeouts and just seven walks in 2014.
