Baseball Battles Butler in BIG EAST Series
Scouting the Bulldogs (16-23, 4-5 BIG EAST)
Butler has played one of the more difficult opening three series in BIG EAST action, taking two of three from Xavier and Seton Hall, but were swept at St. John’s.
The Bulldogs are a much better team at home, winning just one true road game this season (1-12). Butler lone road win came on March 26 at Wabash College by a 6-2 score. By contrast Butler is 12-6 at home in 2014.
As a team, Butler is hitting .254, but that figure falls to .224 in BIG EAST action. Marcos Calderon leads the Bulldogs at the dish with a .315 average, including 46 hits and 19 RBI this season.
On the mound Butler has a team ERA of 5.48 on the season and 5.42 in conference play. Closer Billy Laing will be making his second start of the season on Saturday.
Laing allowed just one run in eight innings in his first start on April 18 as Butler defeated Xavier, 2-1.
