Seton Hall Edges Softball 1-0 to Take Series Finale
OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton softball senior pitcher Becca Changstrom allowed just one unearned run on one hit to host Seton Hall on Sunday but the Pirates gave up just two hits to the Jays in a pitchers’ duel as SHU edged CU 1-0 at Mike Sheppard Sr. Field.
Creighton (25-16, 6-5 BIG EAST) could not get its offense going in the game with just a pair of singles from senior Ellen Homan and freshman Jen Daro. In the circle, Changstrom maintained her solid numbers this year giving up just a run on two hits while striking out seven Pirates to eclipse 200 K’s for the second straight season at 204.
Seton Hall (11-26, 5-4 BIG EAST) held Creighton off of the scoreboard for the first time since the Bluejays were shut out at No. 21 Tulsa on Feb. 28. SHU made the most of its one hit and a Creighton error to open the bottom of the third inning to score the game’s lone run.
That third inning proved to be the difference in the game as SHU opened with a single to third base followed by a CU error on a sacrifice bunt that put runners at the corners with no outs. The Pirates then sent the runner home to score on a fielder’s choice with one out to gain the 1-0 lead.
Changstrom dropped to 14-9 overall with the setback.
The Jays host BIG EAST leader DePaul next weekend in Omaha. Because of the Easter holiday, the series begins with a doubleheader on Friday at noon CT and a single game on Saturday at 11 a.m.
