OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's basketball team announced the signing of five players for the 2014-15 season on Thursday, Nov. 14 to national letters-of-intent. Creighton will add Kylie Brown (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Sydney Lamberty (Cottage Grove, Minn.), Myah Mellman (Mason City, Iowa), Bailey Norby (Forest Lake, Minn.) and Jade Owens (River Forest, Ill.)
A 6-3 post player from Simley High School, Brown is one of three players from Minnesota to commit to Creighton for the 2014-15 season. Brown led Simley HS to a combined 61-22 record over three seasons. Selected to the Minnesota All-State squad following her junior season, Brown has already collected over 1,000 career rebounds in her high school career. She averaged 12.9 points and 11.7 rebounds per game as a junior. Brown is a three-time All-Classic Suburban Conference selection and was her team MVP in 2012-13
Lamberty is a 5-10 guard from Park High School. The Minnesota native enters her senior season with 1,679 career points, topping 1,000 points in January of her sophomore season. She went on to earn All-Minnesota Metro honors following the 2012-13 season. Lamberty also earned Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association All-State Honorable Mention and was a named Star Tribune and Pioneer Press Prep Athlete of the Week last year. Entering her senior season, Lamberty is rapidly climbing the all-time record book at Park HS, she is currently second in scoring, and is the record holder in assists as well as steals.
Mellman comes to Creighton from Mason City High School, the 5-7 guard has long standing ties to Creighton as she played for the same club team (All Iowa Attack) that current Bluejay Sammy Jensen and former Bluejay Ally (Jensen) Obermeier did. A two-time team captain for Mason City HS, Mellman scored a combined 513 points over the last two seasons. She earned All-CIML Northern Conference First Team honors following the 2011-12 season and was a Second Team selection in 2012-13. Off the court, Mellman is a three-time Academic All-CIML Northern Conference selection.
Creighton's third recruit from Minnesota, Norby, is a 6-2 post player from Forest Lake High School. Norby has racked up over 1,000 points and 700 rebounds at Forest Lake, earning varsity letters since her 8th grade year. A starter beginning her freshman season, Norby averaged a team-high 17.9 points per game in 2012-13. Norby and Lamberty enter Creighton with an immediate bond as the tandem has played AAU basketball together for the Minnesota Stars.
Owens is a 5-6 point guard from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Ill. A four-year starter, Owens averaged over 19 points, five assists, four steals and five rebounds per game last season. Named one of the Top-50 Players by the Chicago Tribune, Owens was also named to the Chicago Sun-Times All-State Second Team and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-State Second Team.
"The versatility of this group is truly special. We've added a point guard, a shooting guard, a long guard and two post players, but everyone we've added has the ability to play multiple positions at the next level," said head coach Jim Flanery.
