Changstrom Named to 2013 MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team

ST. LOUIS – Creighton junior Becca Changstrom earned a spot on the 2013 MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team, one of five repeat selections, announced by the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) office Monday. Fellow Bluejays Blair Lowe and Sammy Snygg earned honorable mention selections this year.

The 2013 MVC Pitcher of the Year, recently earned All-MVC First Team and MVC All-Tournament Team honors after she won the pitching Triple Crown in Valley play in 2013 with 13 wins, 133 strikeouts and a 1.34 ERA. Changstrom, a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region Second Team selection, also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District VII recognition this month. This season she claimed MVC Pitcher of the Week honors four times and won MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards on three occasions.

Changstrom posted 10 strikeouts or more on 12 different occasions this season. The Lincoln, Neb., native ended the season leading the Valley in overall games for ERA (1.70), strikeouts (254), opposing batting average (.192) and wins (22). Snygg, a senior, hit her lone home run of the season as a pinch hitter against then-No. 14 Florida on Feb. 8.  The utility ranked fourth on the team in assists and seventh on the squad for putouts this season. Snygg notched the second stolen base of her career this season against then-No. 21 Tulsa on March 2.

CU was 18-7 when she started at third base this year. She made three pitching appearances in relief this season with four strikeouts in six innings and a 3.50 ERA.
