ORLANDO, Fla. - The Creighton women's tennis team traveled to sunny Florida for Spring break and notched another win in the win column on the 2011 season, sweeping Mount St. Mary's 7-0. The Jays (5-5, 0-1) lost just one doubles spot but swept through everything else, dropping the Mounts to 1-2.
The women's team played singles first, winning each singles spot, with three different singles matches going to three sets (the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 spots the only matches to go to three sets. In No. 1 singles, Anna Kirshenbaum defeated Emily Bolchoz 7-5, 6-2. In the only three set match, Analese Snyder defeated Samantha Pinchoff 5-7, 6-4, 10-2.
Kelsey Schmidt defeated Kally Conroy 6-7, 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles while Lauren Mastro defeated Carly Landini in straight sets in the No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-3. Mary McMullan flipped a first game score and took advantage of it, defeating Emma Haley 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles. Finally, Sarah Cadwallader defeated Renee Deane in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles.
With the Jays already holding a 6-0 lead, the two teams went to the doubles side. Snyder and Kirshenbaum defeated Emily Bolchoz and Renee Deane 8-6 in the No. 1 doubles, while McMullan and Schmidt defeated Kelly Conroy and Samantha Pinchoff 8-2. The two wins gave the Jays the automatic point and the sweep, even though Emma Haley and Carly Landini defeated Sarah Cadwallader and Leesa Cadwallader 9-7 in the No. 3 doubles.
