Season as Head Coach at Creighton
Matt Rogers was promoted to head coach of the Creighton men's and women's cross country programs on July 19, 2013.

Rogers served as a volunteer coach with the Bluejays in 2012 and has been serving as the interim head coach for both teams since Chas Davis resigned.

"Accepting this position was a very easy decision for myself and my wife, Courtney," said Rogers at the time of his hire. "Ever since we arrived in Omaha and at Creighton, we have felt that this is our new home and we are supposed to be here. Every day at Creighton is a blessing and an opportunity."

“We’re excited about the opportunity to promote Matt Rogers to be the head coach of our cross country programs,” said CU Associate Athletic Director Mark Burgers upon hiring Rogers. “He has previous head coaching experience and developed strong relationships with our student-athletes while serving in a coaching capacity with our program last season.”

Rogers has spearheaded an impressive turnaround in the Bluejay cross country program, which has coincided with a step up to the highly-competitive BIG EAST Conference.

The Creighton men's team finished seventh at its inaugural BIG EAST Championship before moving to fifth place in 2014, the best finish at a league meet for the men since 2007.

His first two women's teams have finished seventh at the BIG EAST Championship. In 2014, Courtney Sawle raced to 11th at the league meet, the best showing by any Creighton woman at a conference meet since 2001. Her time was one of several school records set by Sawle, helping the senior attain All-BIG EAST honors.

Not only have his teams improved their times on the course, but they've excelled academically, as well. Both teams own cumulative GPA's over 3.50.

Rogers arrived at Creighton after serving as a volunteer coach at St. Joseph's Academy in St. Augustine, Fla., from 2010-12. During that same span, he served as head coach and co-founder of the North Florida Track Club.

In 2006 Rogers started TrainSmart Sports, a company which was created in order to coach runners and triathletes who wanted to pursue a higher level of competition.

Rogers also served as an assistant cross country and track & field coach at Bishop Moore Catholic High School in Orlando, Fla., from 2002-04 and was Vice President of the University of Central Florida Triathlon Team for three years.

Rogers earned his bachelor of science degree in Industrial Engineering from UCF in 2006.
