DES MOINES, IOWA – The Creighton men finished second and the women finished fifth in their season opener at the Drake Invitational this afternoon. Creighton, Drake, Iowa, Iowa State and UNI were the five schools represented with participants in this year’s run, which took place at Ewing Park.
Iowa finished first on the men’s side, while Iowa State won team honors on the women’s side.
Iowa’s Ben Anderson finished the 4K run first overall with a time of 12:30. Iowa State’s Heidi Engelhardt won the women’s 4K event with a 14:44 time.
Senior Courtney Sawle led the way for the Bluejay women, finishing sixth overall with a time of 14:58. Junior Emily Mauser finished 24th with a time of 15:57. Junior Emily Peterson finished 28th with a time of 16:01. Junior Anna Weirick’s 17:05 was enough for a 38th place finish, while junior Katy Kambhu finished 42nd with a time of 17:26 to round out the women’s top five.
Junior Garrett Kenyon was the top Bluejay on the men’s squad. Kenyon finished second overall with a time of 12:32. Senior Drew Prescott finished second for the Bluejays with a 12:58 time to finish 13th overall. Sophomores Patrick Reinschmidt and Eric Klein finished 16th and 17th with times of 13:01 and 13:02. Senior Tin Nguyen finished 25th with 13:24 to finish in the men’s top five.
The Bluejays compete in the Augustana Twilight on Sept. 5 at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.
