SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Creighton men finished eighth and the women seventh at the Augustana Twilight Invite on late Friday evening. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Midland, Doane, Hastings, Wayne State and the College of St. Mary were among those the 17 teams that participated in the evening run.
The race was the first under the direction of head coach Matt Rogers, who was hired to lead both Creighton cross country programs in July.
UNL won team honors on the men’s side and host school Augustana finished first on the women’s side.
Trevor Vidlak finished the four mile men's run first overall with a time of 18:18. Runa Falch of Augustana won the women’s 3K event with a 16:16.
Newcomer Maddie Ivy led the Bluejays in the three mile run. She finished 18th with a time of 17:35. Courtney Sawle finished 31st with a time of 17:51. Vanessa Miller finished 49th with a time of 18:18. Emily Mauser (18:25) and Emily Peterson (18:27) finished 58th and 59th respectively.
For the men Garrett Kenyon was the top Bluejay. He finished the four mile run 18th with a time of 19:30. Drew Prescott finished 43rd with a time of 20:15. Tin Nguyen placed third for the Jays. His time of 20:42 was good enough for 61st place. Daniel Poston finished just three spots behind Nguyen with a time of 20:44. One second and two spots behind Poston was newcomer Eric Klein who rounded out the men’s top five.
The Jays compete in the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invite on Sept. 21 in Lincoln.
